Introduction
Lesotho the Mountain Kingdom of Southern Africa is one of the highest countries of the world , is remote and rugged with spectacular scenery and largely undeveloped. Anyone with a keen sense of adventure, untamed splendor and in search of African tradition should include this on their itinerary. Lesotho is the source of the rivers of Southern Africa's watershed. This is a world without fences, breathtaking scenery with the skies of Lesotho leaving one spell bound, rivers seem to always be strongly flowing. The light takes on a special quality in the high, mountain air. Equally spectacular are the countless unique formations and amazing sandstone overhangs. It also has a treasure trove of Bushmen (San) rock art. Sites of staggering splendor await the curious visitor.  Much of Lesotho is a secret and the Basotho people are warm and so hospitable and generally happy to share glimpses of their traditional life, but as courtesy always first approach the village headman or chief before engaging in villagers. The pristine condition of the insides of their huts is legend, fascinatingly decorated with exquisite objects. A pony trek on the Basotho ponies through the mountain ranges and villages is a highlight.
Climate
Clean and invigorating with more than 300 days of sunshine. Summer is from November to January and usually hot. Autumn warm and ideal for hiking and camping. Winter is from May to July with snow on the Maluti Mountains. It can be very cold but the days are generally sunny. Spring is around August. 85% of Lesotho's rainfall between 700 mm and 800 mm in most parts of the country – usually occurs between October and April, and brings down the rivers in full flood, providing ideal fishing conditions.
