Thou great and mighty chief!
Thou who has an army
The red soldiers came:
We destroyed them.
The mounted soldiers came:
We destroyed them.
The mounted police came:
We destroyed them
When will they dare
To repeat their attack?
Zulu Victory Song, sung after the Battle of Isandlwana

The Battlefields region of the Zulu Kingdom is a land of natural beauty, steeped in history. The battlefields of the area are found in the KwaZulu-Natal hinterland, beneath the shadow of the Drakensburg mountains. Within this region are some 63 battle sites. Some of the bloodest battles in history were fought in this north-west corner as Zulus, Boers and British forces clashed over land and soverenignity. The battles played out over almost 100 years, shaped destinies, toppled rulers and created heros. Today people travel from all over the world to revisit these tragic moments in history.
